I have a lot of memories of Gerald, but one that stands out happened when my son was little. We were visiting Gerald at his home near Littleton. Nick was chasing the chickens when a rooster turned on him pecking him in the face. Nothing serious. Later after we had returned home, Gerald called to see if Nick was okay. We told him he was fine & not to worry since Nick should not have chased the chickens in the first place. Gerald said that didn't matter & that the rooster would never do that again because he was fixing him for supper.
My children never got to know there own grandfathers. Rachel adopted Gerald as her "Papa" a long time ago. They shared a love of animals, & she enjoyed the time spent with him. I am so thankful to him for the love & kindness he gave her. He was the best.
